Cotecna India grants certification to Indian Oil’s Panipat Refinery for meeting standards in producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
Cotecna India has certified Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s Panipat Refinery for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This marks the first-ever ISCC CORSIA certificate awarded to an Indian refinery, positioning India at the forefront of green aviation innovation.
Cotecna India is the first Certification Body (CB) in the country to be accredited under the ISCC CORSIA scheme by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB).
The ISCC CORSIA certification system plays a crucial role in verifying the sustainability of aviation fuels used in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). It ensures compliance with stringent sustainability criteria related to greenhouse gas emissions and carbon stock, as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Indian Oil’s Panipat Refinery achieved this milestone by successfully converting used cooking oil into Co-processed Oil, a viable substitute for Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).
In a special ceremony held in New Delhi, Dr. Durgesh Sharma, CEO of Cotecna India & Sri Lanka and Mr. Subrata Saha Business Director – CQR, Cotecna India formally handed over the certificate to Mr. A. S. Sahney, Chairman, Indian Oil, in the presence of:
- Mr. Rohit Mathur, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG)
- Mr. Maneesh Kumar, Joint Director General, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
The event was also attended by senior officials from MoP&NG, DGCA, NABCB and IOCL, reflecting the strong institutional support behind this achievement.
